Bae Yong-Jun is an actor famous throughout Asia, particularly in Japan and South Korea, for his starring role in the extremely popular Asian television drama Winter Sonata.
Bae Yong-Jun was born in Seoul, South Korea on August 29, 1972. He went to PaiChai Middle School and Hanyoung High School. In college, at Sung Kyun Kwan University he graduated from the Department of Film, TV & Multimedia, and started to pursue an acting career. When he was twenty two years old, in 1994, he appeared in the Korean film "PpilKu", a story based on the Korean drama "Salut D'Amour". Over the next year he appeared on "Salut D'Amour" and "Six Steps to Separation", essentially Korean soap operas. He continued to make appearances in television dramas over the next few years, including "Sunny Place of the Young" and "First Love".
After a two year break from acting, during which he continued to study film at Sung Kyun Kwan University, Bae Yong-Jun started appearing on television dramas again. He became internationally famous during this period for his leading role in the drama series "Winter Sonata". "Winter Sonata" introduced the Korean television drama to Japan, causing a considerable craze. He became well known as a leading personality in the "Korean Wave", a period during which Korean pop culture started to present a much larger influence on the region. Bae Yong-Jun's appearance in "Winter Sonata" continues to be his primary source of recognition. While the show has been over for several years, "Winter Sonata" has sold well on DVDs and is still much loved by the Japanese fans. Bae Yong-Jun released an autobiography entitled "The Image: Volume 1" in 2004. Although shortly after the series he appeared in a romantic film attempting to capitalize on "Winter Sonata"'s success, audiences didn't respond nearly as well to the more physical role. Over the years since "Winter Sonata" he has primarily toured in support of his "Winter Sonata" fans.

Bae achieved fame as the romantic lead in a number of globally syndicated televised drama series.
Bae found his calling as an actor as a teenager and entered the film, television, and multimedia program at Seoul's Sungkyunkwan University. After his father's business failed, Bae was forced to leave school to help support his family. Although his interest in acting continued, Bae could find only low-paying work as a production assistant on a film set. He made valuable contacts during this time, however, and in 1994 made his debut as the lead in the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) drama series Love Greeting. Bae's performance earned him accolades from the network, and the glasses that he wore for the role became his trademark. He went on to star in more than a half dozen drama programs for KBS and other Korean networks before taking a break in 1999 to resume his university studies.

Having a high status in Japan, ‘Yon-sama’ owes a lot of his popularity from his Japanese fans, and with a gracious heart, he has decided to give away 1,000,000,000 WON, which comes up to approximately $900,000 USD.

Bae Yong Joon hospitalized for neck injury

Beloved Hallyu actor Bae Yong Joon has been hospitalized for a neck injury.
The injury is not a new one, as Bae Yong Joon was first admitted to the hospital back in 2007 for a disc problem in his neck. Filming for the drama, “The Legend“, caused the actor’s neck some trauma, and it looks like filming for “Dream High” has inflamed the injury once more.
Management agency Key East stated, “After stressing over the drama filming recently, his weakened neck became strained. The weather is cold as well, so it seems that while doing his duties as producer, his health worsened.”
Bae Yong Joon might have to undergo surgery for the issue after his 4-day hospital stay. He is currently taking medicine and doing physical rehabilitation.
His agency also added that although his absence will not significantly affect the “Dream High” production schedule, Bae is still trying his best to get better and return to the set.
